I first stumbled upon The Brain on Pinterest, whilst endlessly scrolling past screeds of magical, lustworthy retreats and architectural beauties. This one always appealed to me with the almost transparent space and blocky construction; it’s almost brutalist in its aesthetic, which is ok with me. The massive windows either side of a tall, wide bookcase. Wood, metal and concrete. It’s really beautiful and every time I see a picture of The Brain I instantly want to build my own and work from it. Perhaps one day I will!
Designed by Tom Kundig, of now OlsonKundig architects, back in 2001 for David Wild, a television commercial director. It’s built in Seattle and has won numerous awards.
